November 28, 2013
Last Thursday, me and my classmates from Zones 4 and 5 went to Banchetto at Robinson’s Pioneer open parking space and manned the RID 3800 booth for the Donation drive for Typhoon Yolanda victims. We had fun making announcement and went to various tables soliciting donations from diners of Banchetto. The next day Friday, Nov. 22, 2013 we had our 2ndZone 4 Intercity meeting at the Marikina Convention Center. Our guest of honor and speaker was Gawad Kalinga Founder Antonio “Tony” Meloto, who gave a very inspiring talk about Social Entrepreneurship. He talked about patronizing our own Filipino made products, including Marikina made shoes and he vowed never to wear foreign made shoes, especially made in China. Coincidentally, our gift to him was a pair of leather shoes, size 101/2 made in Marikina by the famous Valentino Shoes.
As we all know, Yolanda wreaked havoc in the Visayas provinces, particularly Tacloban City.Let us help the victims of this calamity and help in the rebuilding of the devastated towns and cities in the area. We have started a Rebuild Donation Drive, chaired by Rtn. Carl Tan to solicit donations for the rebuilding efforts such as cash and construction materials aside from the usual relief goods items like clothes and foods stuff we are safe. We are also planning to have a Garage Sale at the parking area of MRYC during the first weekend of December Saturday. We shall solicit donations in kind which we will then sell and the sales proceeds will be turned over in full for typhoon Yolanda victims. There will be booths where sponsoring groups, rotary clubs or individuals may have their garage sale during the event. The concept is for those who wish to donate but can afford to donate not cash but items or gadgets which they no longer use in their homes. Rtn Carl has already solicited commitments for 6 booths. Some of my classmates in zone 4 are also manning some of their own booths. In sympathy to the victims, let us do our share by donating whatever we can for the benefit of our brothers in the Visayas, especially the children.

This is the twenty-first entry in my journal. Let us help our unfortunate brothers and sisters who were victims of Yolanda. Let us share whatever we can and it will come back to us ten times more. You can donate cash or in kind and drop it at MRYC. Our secretary Jaen Josef will duly receive your donations and issue a receipt for cash donations or acknowledgement receipt for in-kind donations. Also please support our incoming Garage Sale for typhoon victims. We plan to donate the amount in cash and in kind solicited to the District 3800 Rotary Calamity Fund for the Yolanda typhoon victims. May God bless all of us. Let usshare Rotary to our friends and encourage them to be members of this great service organization. During this Rotary Foundation month, let us contribute to the TRF and support its campaign to do good in the world. Let us engage Rotary and change lives. Thank you.
